Went to see the new movie The Bride! and I really liked it!

Some thoughts...

The exclamation point in the title announces that everything in this movie will be a bold move.

Christian Bale as Frankenstein resonated with me. His scene meeting his hero brought tears — it shows how movies become a refuge for outcasts.

I loved The Bride’s mental Tourette’s — an overload of information and feeling erupting in ugly, unsettling ways. If a monster is the return of the repressed, this film nails it by pushing that idea through a feminist lens. Jessie Buckley’s performance is daring and punk.

The opening monologue frames the story as either a horror story or, even more frightening, a love story. Watching The Bride and Frankenstein come together awkwardly, live huge, then fall apart made me realize that love stories are the most horrific— every love story ends in tragedy. That’s what makes love wild: the moment you fall, you know you’re signing up for soaring heights and brutal dives into darkness. After going through a messy, painful divorce, this movie felt cathartic. It helped me accept the ugly ending, because love always ends ugly. So thanks, The Bride!.

Making Frankenstein and The Bride a Bonnie‑and‑Clyde duo in the ’30s is a brilliant core conceit.

The movie drops you straight into the period and the illusion never cracks. For such an oddball film, the scale is enormous. It feels like everyone involved cashed in a lifetime of favors to make this happen.

The big dance number in the middle is incredible — a wild fusion of Evil Dead, Thriller, Young Frankenstein, and Rocky Horror.

When Frankenstein says, “I am a black hole,” I slow‑clapped. Only two other people were in the theater, so I didn’t cause a scene.

Any movie with the taste to end on two people holding hands earns my recommendation.

If you approach this as theater — a pop‑art rant from an artist who spent too long playing the girlfriend — you’ll get through just fine.

Bonus: Extra points for giving her a leg brace.
