What's Happening?!?

hey Hey hey!

That movie suggits!

SEIZURECISE – There is this new exercise craze sweeping the west coast in which you spend 50 dollars to be injected with a drug that induces an epileptic seizure. The seizure lasts about 30 minutes, and participants can burn up to 1300 calories per injection. This may be the magic pill people have been looking for, as it takes no voluntary will or action, and afterwards you don’t even remember it happened. You are fitted with a mouth piece and just left alone until the seizure subsides. People report feeling a calm cleansing energy immediately after.

M. Night Samabangbang (maturity pills out)

Any movie that has a guy lie down under a running lawnmower has to be pretty cool.

Mark Walberg, well, he was good in The Departed.

People have treated this movie with no love, two friends have told be to just walk away and pretend it doesnt exist.

I am not the biggest M Night fan, but the movies of his that I like most are the ones that make the least amount of cash.

Top two favorites:

Unbreakable

Lady in Water

So sue me, no one likes Lady in the Water.

No one but me, it is my favorite, despite him casting himself as the big writer dude.

But if you didnt know it was him, it would be fine.

Whatever, Balaban dies great.

So I will prob like The Happening, will be seeing it tonight with Steph, our first night out in something like three months.

Finishing up at work now, realized some stuff today.

The things you are supposed to be doing should come as second nature and we are all variations of one another.

There are a lot of things that I can be doing right now that I hesitate in pursuing due to mental stigmas placed against them (by me).

These doors are open but I instead bang on the locked ones.

Doors you walk through lead to other doors.

These doors are hidden until you pass through.

Doors others walk through are closed to you.

If the path is worn down, it is not yours.

What is obvious to you is not obvious to others.

What is obvious to others is not obvious to you.

Before doing though, you have to get yourself right with God.

Otherwise all doing has no weight. Hollow. Vanity.

ROCK IT BY THE TRAMPLOAD!

Yada Yada Ya?

I will finish this Shatter Monkey script this week.

Just tear though it, been in my damn head for too long.

All the drafts up to this point have been too scattered.

This will be draft three.

Im looking for something in it that hasnt surfaced.

This week Ill just put it out and be done with it.

Youll be able to read it here on DROG/BLOG.

I post it by Sunday.

If not, I lied. Sue me.

Tonight, 99 cent ice creams at McD.

Kick it.

I will make it about 70 pages since this will be self distributed.

It will be made into a limited edition 1000 copies and then I put it away into the Smear Vault.

Kinda like Disney.

Do they really have a vault.

A bunch of Dumbo DVDs, VHS, Betas, Laserdisks, just gathering dust.

Old Man Disneys reanimated head lording over the stacks of merchandise.

Yes! All Mine! ALL MINE!!! he bellows as drones toil away, erasing all memories of The Black Cauldron and Oliver and CO from the collective sub consciousness.

Black Hole was put out by Anchor Bay, that movie rules all.

Dont stop- get it, get it.

SWIFF Update!

So that was a bomb and a half,

I will have to get you the video link and some frame grabs, it was fun!

Handsome Sweater played, and they rocked the house.

Low fi at its finest.

Then the movie played to a respectable 20ish in attendance. RAD!

They dug it, and I got stuff on video, will put it up soon.

Saw some lines I would like to cut, maybe I will, and maybe amp the saturation, maybe maybe.

The movie is fun for people, and some of the things that used to drive me crazy are actually what I like about it now.

The build up to the first chicken attack really works for me now, it is a long drive to get there, but has a good punch to it once it happens.

Build up build up build up and then it happens and is pretty ridiculous and weird.

Met Ron McCellen, director of Jack O’Lantern, he was a cool dude who makes horror stuff around town, is very prolific and ambitious, and very forth coming with answers to some distribution questions I had. AWESOME!

Sold some t-shirts and had some nice feed back, no one actively angry or condescending, so cool.

SO a successful night, followed by going to the Loafing Leprechaun with Fasmagger and shooting the breeze.

I am itemizing the costs of the deliverables.

Nee-ha.

Sam Drog

Coffee, four shots of espresso on ice that I brought from work last night, little. And bit of sugar, puts me a really good mood. A day with out coffee is really not a day. I don't perceive it to be, every noise is too loud. All light is too bright. The hours drag on and on and we just automaton our way through it.

Add some strong coffee through out the day, and we'll be alright. Espresso is the bomb-diggity, but barring that, French press, and baring that, grind the beans just before the Mr. Coffee hits it, and if that can not be found, just wing it until you get to a place where you can find something decent.

The baby just woke up, Steph is out selling old clothes, I'm home from work today, making copies of the flick for the screening tonight. Sarah calls Cameron "Cam", and I like that of coarse.

Gotta GO!

Eat it Monkey

So I found out that there is this mix that pool cleaners use to eat through scum that can be very volatile and even explosive if not handled with extreme care.

This makes me think of shooting Zombeak and how hard and hot and uncomfortable it all was.

We would kid that the next film should be filmed by a pool, in lounge chairs, with coolers of bevs everywhere.

Pool Party Massacre.

Pool of Scum

Scum Burner

Death Pool

Pool of BLOOOOOOOOOOD!

Cruel Pool.

We would make it like Gossip Girl or The Hills, and every time they wander away from the pool, some maniac gives them, the ultimate solution.

They would get marred and mauled by this acid that once activated can do pretty awesome and gross things.

We would just write a drama, and slowly write the characters out.

So we would start with some pour girl in some Saw like environment, something like Don't Go into the House, were some freaky dude dressed in a bio hazard suit walks in to a protective cell and melts her face off.

A telephone rings.

Freaky dude picks it up.

FREAKY DUDE - I'll be right there.

He takes off some of the protective gear, throws it into a bag, and walks out of the dingy basement.

Up stares is some lady chain smoking and playing solitaire on the computer.

FREAKY DUDE - I got a job, be back latter.

SOLITAIRE - Umm Hmm.

Freaky Dude walks outside, he is in the suburbs.

An older neighborhood of blue collar track housing.

He gets in his blue pickup.

On the door is the decal sign, COALMAN'S SWIMMING POOL SCRUBBINS! 555-222-1138.

He is driving through the burbs.

Chemicals marked solution A and Solution B rattle around the bed of the truck.

He passes a lot of backyard pools.

He glares at the happy wonderful people enjoying life and the summer.

opening titles play over this driving sequence.

MC MANSION

We are at one of those pop up out of the ground estates, brick and high iron gate surrounding the premises.

On the back grounds is a swimming pool with perfect still water,

...to be continued.

Ramblings and Copyright.

Dare to be Stupid

Dare to be

To be

Be.

There you go.

I want to pit a Redneck Band vs. a Goth band at the screenings.

We could have someone dressed like the devil chicken as an MC.

CARTOON IDEA

Make video green

Print 5frs/sec (or send to paint)

Trace over figures

Resend to program (rescan)

Remove green

Luminance matte

Add background

Black lines, filled with crayon

Make it more contrastery in premiere

Writing Myself Awake

What up world!
Getting into gear, making it happen.
What it's al about.
Got me some green tea in the mug.
Steph saw something on it last night.
Green tea doesn't create big dead spaces in your brain.
Like coffee does.
That sucks.

The kids are playing this morning.
Cameron in his jumper, Sarah on the floor.
She now answers in his voice, like makes up what she thinks he wants to say.

Sarah - Why are you laughing Cameron?
Sarah (as Cameron, squealy voice) - Because I like jumping!

Awe!

So I need to learn something new today, so I think I want to learn how you copywrite your film. It's one of those pesky requirements the distributors ask for.

Distribution Ponderings

So the big thingadingding right now with Zombeak is distribution, and how to best get the flick to those who care, and how to get the word out, and what avenues are available.

On one hand you have the video labels that carry this level of weird homespun horror. You may get on Amazon, on Netflix, at Blockbuster (maybe). But who goes into Blockbuster anymore?

Most people I know get their movies off line by Netflix or more commonly, boosted for free off shareware sites.

So you get it out at the Blockbuster, in Best Buys, in Sam Goodie, how much love will a distributor give your film in terms of advertising, marketing to set it apart from the pack? Will you ever see a dime from it?

The more I research the various means of self distribution, the more I like it.

Maybe Im a control freak.

Maybe the internet really is leveling the playing field.

I know sites that will sell your film on Amazon, stream your film, download to own, download to rent, and I could always just shoot people a hard copy, I have a paypal account. Shoooot.

So it is all about advertising, getting the name out there, totally possible if you use the web, be a little proactive. Then at least it is in your hands.

Youre not sitting on your hands and sweating.

Succeed or fail on your own terms.

If you can do something on your own, you should.

I dont know, just thinking.

Adapt or die!

SWIFF - DIARY - PIXIES DOC

A quick rundown!

We will open the doors to the Zombeak! screening at the Gwinnett Arts Center at 7:30!

There will be t-shirts and DVDs of the film available for purchase, 5 bucks a hit, cheap! Buy one for you, your church group, your fussy aunt, your kids, and for each voice in your head.

Here is that link again!

Good movies this weekend!

DIARY OF THE DEAD!

Man this ruled my muffin top!

Romero is the man, 70 plus years old and directing circles around those whipper snappers and their spastic infected turbo zombies!

Loved the long takes, the trading video camera perspectives, the awesome zombie deaths, the sense of fun, the video propaganda, loved every second, it recharged my batteries and reignited my love for horror movies!

loudQUIETloud

Deeeep.

All about the reunion tour that I missed! Grrr. Very cool doc about what happens after the hype, that people have to live their hours like normal people, even FREAKING GENIUSES have to pay the bills, go to work, wrestle with their demons. It was great to see that these guys are so detached from the perceived glamour of what they do. Black Francis looks like he would be just as happy working in a cannery. It seemed real blue collar and a little sad tht they all just sort of tolerate each other, sort of for appearances, like to not upset the kids. When attacked by fans, they shut down, really because they dont know what to so. It is surreal and scary. A great look at what it means to be popular, and the human side of da biz.

A PHONE CALL!

Cool stuff going on today.

Stuff going on today

Right now just getting ready to split day gig.

Received phone call today from distributor.

Wants Zombeak!

What do I do?

I know these guys get their products out there,

So it wouldnt be lost in oblivion.

We are talking deliverables now.

Digi-beta copy of the film.

The last push.

Then it would be out of my hands.

No upfront cash.

But it would position the film to be seen and get us exposure to finance a new one.

Should I self distribute?

Hmmm

What to do, what to do.

A good problem to have.

Nothing to loose sleep over.

The event taken as a whole was pretty awesome!

Let it be just that.

Where I am this morning

Dentist appointment at 8:30am.
I don't floss, trench mouth, gutter gums, rot jaw, stank pit.
Good way to wake up, steel in flesh, graaaaah!

Sarah is into Dexter's Lab, thank you Lord!
We are slowly introducing other foods into her diet.
A girl can't live on Dora alone.

Cameron is sleeping through the night.
This makes all the difference in the world.
His sensor pad trips the alarm at night.
I think he levitates.

A new week at work, sigh.
I think of it as an 8 hour exercise in meditation.
I am like Carrie White, locked in the prayer closet.
A cell, a computer, something to keep my fingers busy, like rosary beads.
Let my brain soak and emit.

Tonight, Starbucks, my only social outlet.
I do love it so.
It's nasty, and my role is more of a dorky dad type,
But I am loven it these days.
Coffee is like cooking. It can be very satisfying.

I am always Conkle, always Drog, I never stop, I don't exert effort, I don't react, I flow.

Way Rad DIY Stuff!

Sweeney Todd!

Hey, just rented Sweeney Todd!

Looooooooved this movie!

Wished I had scene it in theaters.

Photography, old school pink blood, chemistry between Carter and Depp, the look, Carter in general was awesome, Rickman is awesome, Depp was awesome, good pace, everyone had a big hurtful longing that made such great drama, I had a blast with this, I want more Burton - Depp colaborations, they are fun. Oh, and the bag lady twist at the end broke my heart. I love vengence stories, ones that revel in the futility and horror of it all.

The chanllenges - some of the same, Depp and Carter looked like Goth Ken and Barbie, maybe a bit over done, the whole thing a bit "big", so it was like a cartoon (it is a musical, so don't listen to me), the love story between the teenagers never had a climax.

Best part - the casting
Worst part - the teenage love story

But man I can't tell you how awesome the chemistry was between these two leads, and Rickman again, awesome, and his hinchman dude, AWESOME, perfect casting there.

Horror/comedy/musical- great!
